The Post-Colonial Jurisprudence of South Asian Courts

Monday, August 23, 2021

The Institute of Liberal Arts (ILA) at the University of Management and Technology (UMT) is organizing an online event on Law, Language, and Poetry.

The speakers include Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani, Salman Akram Raja, Hina Jilani, Dr. Osama Siddique, and Umer Gilani.

The speakers will explore the intriguing relationship between Law, Language and Poetry, in particular, how poetry has found a place in some very important court judgments, especially those of Justice Jawwad S. Khawaja and Justice Asif Saeed Khosa and how important is it for legislative bodies and judges to have a firm grasp of the language in which they are operating—understanding the nuances of words, their contextual variations, and the multiplicity of meanings that they might carry.

The Dean of the ILA, Dr. Syed Nomanul Haq will moderate the event. The event will be a live webcast on UMT’s Facebook page on Tuesday 24 August 2021, 3:00 PM.
